Oikos College & Young Adult
Join us for our weekly gathering Tuesdays at 6:30pm at our Gathering House on the campus of The University of Memphis at 3611 Midland Ave. We eat together, pray, encourage one another, and share in Scripture study.
Having a spiritual community during the college years and young adulthood can be incredibly valuable in ways that go far beyond just religious practices. This stage of life is often marked by transition, self-discovery, pressure, and uncertainty. Here’s a few reasons why a being a part of a spiritual community can be so important during this time:
Sense of Belonging
College and young adulthood can be lonely at times. Being part of our spiritual community gives you a place where you're known, welcomed, and valued—not for what you do or achieve, but for who you are. That kind of belonging can be a grounding force amid the chaos of new environments and responsibilities.
Spiritual, Emotional & Mental Support
Life gets real in your 20s—stress from school, relationships, career decisions, and personal struggles often hit all at once. The Oikos community offers a support system—people who genuinely care, listen, pray with you, and walk with you through tough seasons.
Guidance and Mentorship
Young adulthood is full of questions: “What am I supposed to do with my life?” “Who am I?” “What do I believe?” In our Oikos community, older mentors and peers can offer wisdom and insight that help you navigate life’s big decisions with purpose and clarity.
Accountability and Growth
It’s easy to drift without structure. We can help you stay grounded in your values and goals. Whether it’s growing in faith, character, or discipline, having people around you who challenge and encourage you fosters healthy spiritual transformation.
Opportunities to Serve & Lead
At Oikos we value growth. Being a part of the college and young adult community can provide opportunities to step into leadership, practice compassion, and serve others. These experiences develop confidence, empathy, and a deeper sense of purpose that textbooks alone can’t teach.
Connection to Something Bigger
In a world that often feels fragmented or hyper-focused on personal success, a spiritual community reminds you that you're part of something much larger. Whether it’s faith in God, shared purpose, or common values, that bigger picture gives meaning to your day-to-day grind.
